BetaShares launches small cap ETP

Exchange-traded product provider BetaShares has launched a new ‘smart beta’ fund that invests in high quality, profitable smaller Australia companies. The BetaShares Australian Small Companies Select Fund typically holds 50-100 stocks outside the 100 largest companies, selected on factors such as positive earnings and a strong ability to service debt. The fund, which aims to outperform the S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries benchmark, generally holds stocks within the 350 largest companies by market capitalisation, said BetaShares. [More]

Local exchange traded fund pioneer Betashares is preparing to add yet another string to its bow with the impending launch of its Select Small Companies Fund. It is understood the actively managed fund will make its debut in March with the strategy tipped to attract as much as $100 million. The launch of a new small caps product is well timed, following the release of a report from Standard & Poors Dow Jones Indices that found fewer than one in five small cap managers was able to beat the index in calendar 2017. As of January 31, Betashares managed $3.3 billion across 35 ETFs and accounted for 22 per cent of all locally listed ETFs by value. [More]
